First and foremost, let it be known how much I love red lipstick. Brick reds, cherry reds, coral reds, orange reds, brown reds, yellow reds… if it’s red, I want it and I want it now. So imagine the case of grabby hands I got when I saw a display with new Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks with two new reds. Naturally, I went for the one that sounded the most exciting: Red Revolution. Oh hay guuuurl. I am nothing if not a lover of revolutionary things happening on my lips. (That’s what she said. There, I did it so you don’t have to.)
The tube itself looks as red as red gets. (I neglected to take a photo of it because I ran out of daylight.) But on the lips? I’ll let you decide.
I know my reds. And that, ladies and germs, is NOT red to me. It’s a really dark reddish pink. Red Revolution? Puh-lease. This is a “revolution” that got squashed by the government before it could even get past the gates. Consider me miffed.
If you like this kind of color, by all means, go for it. The formula itself is reasonably soft and smells nice. But rest assured it will not be taking up residence in my red lipstick area. (So you can run and tell that, homeboy.) Back to the store you go, Failed Red Coup d’Etat.
